JFK’s Best Friend Saw A Future President in RFK Jr.

31 Jul

Book Cover - Jack and LemIn Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Lem Billings saw a combination of both Jack and Robert Kennedy. Billings, best friend to President Kennedy, strongly felt that RFK Jr. had presidential potential, even when Bobby Jr. was only a young man of 14.

So writes author David Pitts in Jack and Lem – The Untold Story of an Extraordinary Friendship. This new book explores the 30 year friendship between President John F. Kennedy and Kirk LeMoyne “Lem” Billings.

From the time they first met the Choate School for boys in 1933 until that fateful day in Dallas in 1963, Jack and Lem always remained best friends.

And yet so little is known about Lem Billings in the larger context of Jack Kennedy’s life. He is sometimes portrayed as a relatively minor figure in the various JFK biographies since he never served in any official capacity at the White House, was never an Ambassador, Senator, or elected representative. He wasn’t a movie star, sports hero, or anybody the paparazzi would particularly want to chase around. His only claim to fame was that he was Jack Kennedy’s oldest and dearest friend.

History has often overlooked him, but the fact is that Lem was the one person Jack confided his deepest secrets to, the man who knew JFK better than anyone in the world. That in itself should make him a fascinating subject for biographers, and I’ve often wondered why we didn’t yet have a book on the shelf about this man whose company Jack obviously never tired of.

There are probably two reasons: First, Lem Billings was gay. This was known to JFK from the time the boys were teens, and it is truly remarkable to read how open-minded and accepting of Billings’ sexual orientation Kennedy was in a very homophobic 1930s American society.

Again, this seems a subject ripe for further exploration by historians, but one only has to remember the social and political climate of 20, 40, 60 years ago to realize why Lem Billings had to stay hidden in the closet – and in the shadows of history. Only in the year 2007 can we finally have a book that is a frank and honest examination of the President’s close friendship with a man who was a homosexual.

THIS STORY COULD NOT HAVE BEEN TOLD WITHOUT RFK JR.

Another reason it has taken so long for such a book to be written is that an 815-page oral history Billings (who died in 1981) gave to the John F. Kennedy Library in 1966 has been restricted to researchers for four decades. It was only with the kind permission of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that Jack and Lem author David Pitts was allowed to access and  quote from this invaluable document.

RFK Jr. also allowed Pitts unrestricted access to the Lem Billings Collection, donated to the JFK library in 2003. Now we can finally gain an understanding of the deep bond between these two men through Lem’s diaries, letters, photographs and scrapbooks which document 30 years of love, laughter and tears.

“Together, they really had everything,” says Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in the book’s first chapter. “They loved each other and they got satisfaction out of the successes that each of them enjoyed.” For Billings, who had built his whole world around Jack Kennedy since they were both boys, the loss of his best friend was more devastating than most of us could ever imagine.

Billings was by all accounts never the same after that day in Dallas. And then just five years later, the assassination of Robert Kennedy drove Lem into a deepening state of depression, which he tried to combat by making himself a sort of surrogate father to the children Jack and Bobby had left behind.

“LEM AND I WERE ALWAYS FRIENDS” – RFK JR.

On the night of June 4, 1968, Ethel Kennedy had been by her husband’s side at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles when he was shot. At the time, the children were back in Virginia at Hickory Hill or scattered around New England at their various boarding schools. Lem did his best to help in the hours following the shooting, gathering Bobby and Ethel’s kids together for the sad, inevitable journey to California.

He felt he had to be especially strong for young Bobby Jr., who had always been his favorite. Lem tried to console Bobby, Joe and Kathleen on the flight to L.A. on a private plane provided by Lyndon Johnson, but their hopes were soon dashed when they arrived at the hospital and saw just how dire the situation truly was. Within a few short hours, Robert F. Kennedy was gone.

Lem started spending more time with the children, especially Bobby Jr. Determined to take him under his wing, the time he spent with young Bobby during those crucial months after his father’s assassination was likely as theraputic for Lem as it was for Bobby Jr.

In the late summer of 1968, Lem took Bobby on a trip of Africa, where the young Kennedy could revel in his lifelong love for animals. By all accounts, the two bonded on their African adventure. When they returned to the United States, young Bobby began spending a lot of time in Lem’s Upper East Side Apartment. Lem mentored Bobby, helped him with his problems in school, and reassured him by telling him that he and Jack had their troubles when they were young, too, and had once been viewed as rebels by their families and teachers.

“He helped Bobby a great deal during that terrible time and in the years after that,” said singer Andy Williams, a close family friend. “He was very good with Bobby.”

Young Bobby and the other kids loved being around him. He wasn’t as strict as their own family, and he regaled them with stories of Jack and Bobby only he could tell. “Lem was the most fun person I had ever met in my life,” said Bobby Jr. “Lem’s house was more like a fun house; it was a museum, a library, a classroom. Books lined the walls throughout. They were all histories, biographies, and art books.”

Recalling Lem ten years after his death, Bobby added, “Whenever I felt lonely, or sad, or left out, I would call Lem and laugh.”

“The stories he told and the examples he set gave us all a link to our dead fathers and to the generation before us,” says Robert F. Kennedy Jr. While older members of the Kennedy family often found the subject too sad to discuss, Lem felt that the older generation had an obligation to pass on the legacy to the younger Kennedys.  For the Kennedy boys, Lem was filling a void their parents either couldn’t or wouldn’t fill, according to the author.

There was never any doubt amongst the children that Bobby Jr. was number one in Lem’s heart. David Kennedy and Christopher Lawford sometimes resented all the attention showered upon Bobby, and both spent many years trying to compete for Lem’s affection. Despite this, none of them seem to harbor any such negative feelings towards Billings or RFK Jr. today.

“BOBBY JR. HAS IT IN HIM TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES”

“He did an incredible amount for young Bobby,” recalls Sigrid Gassner-Roberts, Lem’s live-in caretaker and friend from 1969 to 1974. Interviewed for this book, she was particularly outspoken about his concern for Bobby Jr.’s welfare, especially in the year after his father’s death. “He (Lem) would say Bobby has it in him to be president of the United States. He wanted to groom him for the presidency.”

Lem transferred a lot of his feelings for President Kennedy to young Bobby, Sigrid said. He saw so much of Jack in him. She remembered on one occasion, “Bobby ran away from college and joined a commune. Lem searched all night for him…Eventually, he came back at ten the next morning and said, `He’s now back in school.’ He was totally, totally devoted to that kid.”

Young Bobby Jr. turned to drugs and alcohol for a time to ease the pain of losing his father. While Lem tried to help the troubled teen, he too had fallen victim to the lure of intoxicants in the aftermath of the string of tragedies that seemed without end. Sigrid remembered that Lem would sometimes make deals with Bobby. “I’ll stop drinking if you’ll stop smoking pot,” and kept to them for as long as he could before his resolve would wilt again.

Since Lem was a good thirty years older than the Kennedy kids, he has been blamed by some for their involvement with drugs. But the truth is, as Chris Lawford confirmed in his recent book, the kids were doing drugs before they ever did them with Lem and almost certainly would have continued doing so whether Lem was there or not. It was the `60s, after all, and in actual fact it was the kids who turned Lem on to drugs, not the other way around. In this respect, Chris and Bobby were no different from millions of other young Americans during this period who regarded drug use as a rite of passage.

LEM KNEW BOBBY WAS THE NEXT BEARER OF KENNEDY GREATNESS

By 1975, young Bobby had grown into an impressively intelligent, handsome young man and was now clearly the leader of the Kennedy/Billings inner circle. Lem once again found himself playing the role of Bobby’s number-one supporter, just as he always had with Jack. Bobby “got a lot of magnetism from Lem’s fixation,” said Chris Lawford. “Lem had decided that Bobby was the next bearer of Kennedy greatness – and none of us were about to argue. These facts gave him gravitas. Lem’s attachment and anointing of Bobby defined him as the second coming.”

One might be tempted to think that all this fawning and adoration may well have resulted in overinflating Bobby’s ego or given him a sense of entitlement and arrogance. But those who knew Bobby Jr. then say that Lem’s influence over him actually made him more down-to-earth and humble, in spite of all the pressures put upon him to carry the Kennedy torch.

RFK Jr. summed it up years later by saying that Lem “taught me to love and appreciate people and things and how to be grateful for every day of my life.”

In the last few years of his life, Lem Billings did not talk as much about Jack Kennedy as he used to. At that point, says Sigrid Gassner-Roberts, “he was more concerned with Bobby and whether or not Bobby was doing all right, whether he was making the right decisions, who he was dating, where he was going with his life.”

Lem began spending more time alone in his Manhattan townhouse, which had once been such a lively beehive of activity and was still an informal JFK museum of sorts. He still had his memorabilia and his memories of those years, but nothing could fill the void that had been left by Jack’s absence. Each day was a day without him. In so many ways, his attachment to Jack’s brother Robert Kennedy, and then to young Bobby, was a way of reliving his life with Jack, because he saw so much of Jack in them.

“There was a lot of love in him that he bestowed on many people,” Sigrid said of Lem Billings, “but the one person he loved most was torn away from him by an assassin’s bullet. He transferred this love on to Bobby.”

“He was overjoyed with, and totally devoted to, young Bobby, whom he expected to carry on the torch of the Kennedys,” Sigrid wrote in a letter to the author David Pitts.

At Lem’s funeral in 1981, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said of Lem: “He felt pain for every one of us – pain that no one else could have the courage to feel…I don’t know how we’ll carry on without him. In many ways Lem was a father to me and he was the best friend I will ever have.”

RE: RFK & Lem Billings (Review of bk & comments)

I thought this was an interesting narrative on Mr. Billings. A very interesting account of a close relationship between a very straight man and a Gay men. Yet, I find the bk. to be wanting. I’m not sure I really knew Lem or JFK better after reading the bk. I do admit there were anecdotes I had not seen published before. I thought it was odd that we heard nothing of how Lem integrated himself w/ his own gay community. His own gay history which could have been very fascinating! He was a man who knew he was gay back in the 1930’s and he lived to see the Stonewall Rev. He also lived to see AIDS. I don’t have a clue as to what Lem thought of all the changes going on right in his own demographic!

I am rather surprised Ethel allowed her young teenage boys to consort w/Lem unsupervised. She was known to be a very strict Catholic. Sadly, I had also heard narratives which illustrated the pain and confusion Ethel and her family went through after Bobby was killed. The author did not even touch on the tragedys that young RFK, Jr. & especially his brother David went through. I would recommend the bk. to anybody interested in reading narratives of Kennedy family and Presidential History, even though it could have been a better bk. there are still lots of new stories here that will be of interest to fans of Kennedy family.

While it’s good to note that Lem thought Bobby, Jr. to be the natural “heir” to Camelot; I had read an even more compelling narrative in Look Magazine many years ago. The piece was written just before RFK declared for President (if memory serves me right). Of all the Kennedy children to write about at Hickory Hill, the Look Magazine writer found Bobby Jr the most colorful.

Young Bobby was quite ambitious about his menagerie. His parents noticed his keen interst in animals and plants and encouraged him to immerse himself in it. He had all kinds of animals from snakes to bats, and friendlier species such as dogs and bunnys. The article enumerated on how well Bobby kept up with the health and care of his many pets; how his entire lifestyle at a very early age was following St. Francis! Young Robet loved going on outward bound type trips, riding the rough rapids and just communing w/nature long before the word “environment” was part of our natural vocabulary.

I was telling a very conservative friend of mine, what a difference there is between Gore and Kennedy in terms of how they come off to public in terms of their commitment to earth. With Gore you hear lots of neat sound bites, get scolded lots for your wasteful ways and urged, of course to support Mr. Gore and buy whatever bk. he is selling. With RFK, Jr.; you hear about preventing WWIII by using alternative energy. There are religious metaphhores in many of his speeches, beautifully integrated into his speeches in a way that would make his father & uncle proud! RFK, Jr. won’t have to depend on a Sorenson or Peggy Noonan. He is such an eloquent, talented writer. And oh yes, Bobby does encourage one to raise Hell when necessary!

What a great Steward of the Earth he is. What a wonderful leader he would make for us in these difficult time.

Today, I heard on the news tonight that the latest polls the PRESIDENTIAL RACE IS WIDE OPEN. NO CANDIDATE IS AHEAD. Come on in Bobby, the warter is warm, and I do feel your Dad’s beautiful smile upon you! RUN BOBBY RUN and let us run with you!

Thanks for the insightful comments, Suzanne, and for your review of the recent book by David Pitts.

I agree that while the book is a must-read for serious JFK researchers, my only complaint is that after waiting so many decades for Lem’s story, the book should have been at least twice as long as it was! If Lem’s oral history at the JFK Library is 815 pages (all of it interesting, I’m sure), I wish the author could have included more from Lem’s own words.

The 1968 Look Magazine article you reference sounds very interesting, and if you happen to have that magazine and would be willing to scan or transcribe a copy of it, I’d be happy to include the article here on the website for our readers.

Feel free to email a scan or text transcript of the magazine article to us at RFKin2008@cs.com.

I too read “Jack & Lem” and enjoyed it. However, I think we must also weight Lem’s negative impact on the sons of RFK and Christopher Lawford. Lem shared their enthusiasm for drug use and alcohol abuse. Why would a mentor encourage such behavior. As for 2008 and beyond, I guess RFK, Jr. will exploit his relationship with Lem Billings to win brownie points with the gay community. What an opportunist!

  4. rfkin2008 August 14, 2007 at 3:54 pm #

    An opportunist? I respectfully disagree.

Unlike most of the current crop of presidential hopefuls, RFK Jr.’s concern for issues facing gays and lesbians is genuine. He does not pander to the gay community, and I believe that as our next president, he would make greater strides towards full equality for gays and lesbians than any other president in our country’s history.

Besides Lem Billings, Bobby has maintained friendships with gays and lesbians throughout his life. Why should he deny this? Would he abandon his gay/lesbian friends just to win a few red state votes? Doubtful.

In my view, the fact that Bobby is willing to openly discuss his years with Lem Billings is not opportunism; rather, it is a way of bringing hidden truths into the light and allowing us to see history for what it really was, not what some may have wished it would be.

Without RFK Jr.’s decision to open the Lem Billings collection at the JFK library, this book never could have been written. By pulling back the veil on the myth of “Camelot” and allowing the public to know some rather unpleasant and even unflattering truths about his life, I feel that Bobby Kennedy Jr. has done history (and Mr. Billings) a great service. That kind of honesty should be applauded.

IDEAS ARE THE SEED FROM WHICH OUR FUTURE EVOLVES

    1. Your children, my children, and their children’s children are inheriting a world in economic freefall, a world full of debt left to them by my generation. This is not the legacy by which I wish to be remembered.

If we the people continue to take this country and our future for granted, we the people will continue to be victims of Class-Oriented economic oppression. Do we want a world where 99% of the population are working for the 1% elite? This is a global problem. Whether you live in the USA or not, Every human deserves a fair share for the work they do as well as a vested interest in the company for which they work.

Unless checked, economic power will continue to cause more death and destruction than atomic power. Click on the site below and see what happens when people don’t speak out, won’t speak out, or sadly, just have no way to be heard.

    http://www.globalissues.org/article/26/poverty-facts-and-stats

The Fed is bailing out Banks, Investments Houses, and Automobile makers. Who’s next? If the government ends up holding controlling interest in these corporations, isn’t that socialism?

Are the countries that ARE buying up our treasury notes, the same treasury notes we are using to fund these so-called bail-outs, not technically becoming the quasi owners? Add these transactions to the stock already owned by these foreign investors(countries), well, we might as well just stamp the American flag with big bold letters, S O L D across each one.

    2. We need someone like Sam Walton (founder of Wal-Mart) to step up to the plate. If Sam had run for President, been elected, and applied the same vision to this country as he did for Wal-Mart,the world would see the USA, not just as a military super power. The USA would be the world’s benchmark for human rights, worker’s rights, and productivity. I have never worked for Wal-Mart, owned any Wal-Mart stock or had any connection with Wal-Mart other than as a customer, but I honestly think Sam had the right business model, at least as it related to employees and promoting products made in the USA. Having said that, I don’t believe the Wal-Mart of today embraces the same concepts Sam envisioned for Wal-Mart’s future. Today Wal-mart calls their employees associates and pushes a motivation training program with emphasis on the Wal-Mart Team and team spirit. Sam knew that employees who had a vested interest (stock share) in the company would be vastly more dedicated, loyal and productive than if they were just hourly workers. Sam’s vision slowly fell apart due to his having no control over employee stock retention. When employees had a need for funds, Sam had no way to prevent the employee from selling his or her stock; thus employee owners were reverting back in fact, and more importantly in mind-set, to being just an hourly worker. Think how customers would be treated by employee owners, and the respect customers would have for employees when they know this person actually does own the company.

Sam’s idea, had it worked as well for the employees as it has for the overall Wal-Mart Corporation, would have moved thousands of workers well up into the middle class, as was the case of the first employees who DID NOT sell their stock. They became firmly established in the upper middle class, if not wealthy. This is the type of leadership we need NOW.

    3. Social Security is facing a deadline for providing future retirement income now that the baby boomers are entering the picture. Our resources are not going to be able to meet these demands without just printing more and more paper debt. If the government can guarantee certain savings in bank accounts through the F.D.I.C., why not establish a program that would require that every employee own a regulated block of stock (Retirement Account) made up of stock in the company the employee works for and, so the employee will not have all his retirement eggs in one basket, include in this retirement basket high rated bonds and stocks from other non-competing employee-owned companies? In the past for most people, their home has been their largest investment. The employee ownership plan could allow a first home down payment deduction from the retirement account. The down payment could be protected by a priority lien and would accrue interest at a regulated rate that could be paid back into the employees retirement account by the mortgage holder. It seems to me the government could guarantee these programs as they do through the F.D.I.C regulated plans. Like social security, employee accounts will need regulated protection to limit access to the account to first home down payment plans, disability, and retirement. This surely would be less expensive to taxpayers than trying to overhaul and fund Social Security. Most young people I talk with NOW, state they don’t think Social Security will be available when they retire.

Just as we provide student loans to help provide a college education, when the student graduates we should consider providing employment loans that would start the employee ownership package rolling. The corporations themselves could enact scholarship type programs to provide a start-up stock package to attract needed employees. I believe the psychological factor alone would increase the self-esteem a worker will have just by working for his or her “employee owned” company. THIS will go a long way in terms of increasing both the company’s product quality as well as quantity of production and sales. Gone will be the days of the way people think about such things as their work ethic. Each employee owner will have a new incentive to produce and encourage their employee owner partners to do the same. These concepts could unlock, reestablish and promote the ideals and can-do ingenuity for which the American work force is renowned.

The employee could consolidate any existing student loans with the employee stock ownership package, paying for both through a regulated payroll deduction plan. When the startup package is paid for, it would be mandatory that a systematic rate of payroll deductions continue to allow the employees retirement package to continue to grow until retirement. If the employee is terminated prior to retirement, the government could establish policy for an escrow holding account pending re-establishing or transferring the fund with a new employer, including cases of no employment available or disability.

Provisions could also be made in the G I Bill program earmarking a part of the package to provide the funds for the purchase of the employee’s start up stock package for those leaving the military in search of employment.

Think about the effect this would have on startup businesses, where each employee hired is bringing not just his or her skills, but also bringing investment capital.

    4. When you THINK about it, why would anyone given a choice want to work for a corporation that has over 51% of its stock owned by outside investors? They could even be outside of this country. These outside and/or foreign investors are electing THEIR CEOs and board members. As the laws stand now I don’t see any way to prevent outside and/or foreign investors from taking control of a corporation, laying off the workers, sending the jobs overseas and selling all the assets, equipment, buildings, land etc. The asset’s alone of some of these corporations are worth more than the price of all of their outstanding stock. Then they, the investor (through the hostal takeover) are free to use the Brand name on products manufactured overseas and imported back into the United States. Why not limit outside/foreign investment in any one corporation to a maximum of 49% or less? It’s not uncommon to require persons running for political office to live in the city, district or state that they will be representing if elected. In this respect I feel our work force and the companies for which they work are entitled to have the same regulated protections and ownership requirements as the politicians that represent them. Why would we want foreign investors owning controlling interests, electing CEOs and board members in our US corporations? We don’t even allow United States citizens to run for President unless they were born in this country. The founders of this country as well as the founder of Wal-Mart both understood these principles. Both had great visions and ideals at the start.

    5. Vegas & Wall Street

Wall Street is the BIG APPLE CASINO. Vegas has been ahead of Wall Street gamblers (Traders) for a long time. For instance, if you’re a card counter (a system that gives the player an advantage over the house) playing Black Jack in a Vegas casino, even though card counting is legal (like selling short or certain other stock and option trading is legal), when the pit boss catches onto you, the casino has the right to ask you to leave and even ban you from coming back. Why can’t Wall Street take the same position with their trading (gambling)? When it is determined that any specific type of trading action, legal or illegal, is detrimental to the overall health of the stock market, it could and should be banished.

    6. Fiduciary Responsibility & Golden Parachutes

It’s a well known fact that institutional and private fund investors, by virtue of the scale of their collective investments, have enormous influence over financial markets and the global economy as a whole. In 1999 United States public pension funds alone had assets representing 46 percent of the gross domestic product and 33 percent of the New York Stock Exchange’s capitalization. Additional holdings by religious, educational and public institutions, unions and foundations further increase these numbers. As a result, these institution’s financial decisions have a huge impact on society. The collective power of these institutions could be limited to 10 to 30% holding in any one corporation thus reducing their power to control the election of CEOs and board members along with their outrageous contracts that include multi-million dollar bonuses and golden parachutes.

The realities of the 21st century require fiduciaries to be concerned with the impact of financial, social and environmental factors on the performance of their company to fulfill their legal obligations and maximize shareholder value. The change to “employee owned” would require the CEO and board members as fiduciaries, now would have the duty and the opportunity to promote good corporate governance to protect the assets under their care, and because the corporation is at least 51% employee owned the focus would be not just the bottom line.

The employee owner concept asserts that the integration of prudent financial management practices would include the true worth of the corporations assets, including the value of the brand name. The change would also give added direction and incresed emphasis on principles of environmental stewardship, concern for community, and labor rights. Corporate accountability to employee shareholders and stakeholders, which presently are not considered relevant by the financial decision-making process of the bottom lined focused professional investors, now become a priorty. These outside and or foreign investors with no other relationship to the company or employee, other than ownership of its stock, tends to constitute in-fact a single bottom line concept. In order to guarantee long term sustainability. The definition of fiduciary responsibility has to evolve to a more comprehensive view of all aspects concerning the true value of a corporation’s assets and its employees, NOT JUST THE BOTTOM LINE.

    7. A PRIVATIZED NEW DEAL!

The Peter Principle is the principle that “In a Hierarchy Every Employee Tends to Rise to His Level of Incompetence.” This now seems to apply to Corporations more so than employees. The bigger the Corporation the harder they fall. One way to reduce the devastating effects of a giant corporate failure would be to break it down into smaller component production facilities. In the automotive field, this would be the perfect time. Rethinking the industry is ongoing due to the high cost of energy. More fuel efficient vehicles, alternative power source and hybrids are the future. Retooling will be required whether the production facilities are the same central mega factories or smaller compact units spread out across the country. Why not construct and locate satellite assembly and fabrication units close to the local Dealerships. Engine production could be spread out all across the country in units such as piston plants, crankshaft plants, every part a smaller facility. I believe the reduction in labor cost alone could cover the cost of constructing the facilities. I’m not sure what action will be required to get the unions onboard. But I will say this. Robots don’t pay union dues. The technology is available to monitor and supervise each facility remotely from a central location. If the treasury is going to bail-out these corporations anyway, I say attach the funds to employee loans and let the employee owners bring in investment capital to help put it all together. This way we are putting people to work, not just paying out to professional investors. (gamblers)

    8. Make no mistake, IT WILL NOT BE EASY!

CEOs and board members as employee owners themselves will re-focus and self generate concern with all aspects of the business, NOT JUST THE BOTTOM LINE. Corporate issues such as social security (in-house retirement accounts) instead of federal social security,in-house corporate healthcare both during working years and retirement, involvement with unions, Worker’s Compensation issues, all these things will have to be addressed. Our government will need to use tariffs to prevent these same foreign (both private and government owned) corporations, who have workers that are forced to work in sweat shops for anything they can get, from dumping (exporting) low cost copies of our Brand named products back into this country. Last but not least, we must keep in mind the Golden Rule. Those who have the gold make the rules, and you can bet, if the 51% employee ownership ball starts rolling, money will be no object when they (professional outside/foreign investors) put their best lawyers and lobbyists in high gear to protect their status-quo.

We need to act NOW. Whether it’s my view of Sam’s idea, or your ideas, or any combination of ideas, doesn’t matter. Just because we think an idea is sound and could work, but think it will never happen, doesn’t matter. What does matter is, will we get our ideas into the hands and minds of those present and future leaders who can and will mold, modify and implement them to effect productive change. The only thing I know for sure is, the economic system has to be corrected and redirected. We should all speak out now, Loud and clear, While we still can. If the new owners of this country take over, the first thing to go will be our freedom of speech. Please whatever you do, don’t JUST think about it. Now is the time to speak out.

    Thank you for your time.

John F Kennedy Junior Murder & Egyptair 990

by Andy Law » Sun Sep 06, 2009 12:48 am

I was involved in the investigations. One of the perpetrators in both of these tragedies, which were not accidents, was identified. Rodney Powell was a CIA officer from 1974 until the “Halloween Massacre of 1979” when he was laid off, moved to Israel, and went to work for the Mossad, utilizing the right of return to become an Israeli citizen.

The “MO” with EA 990 was drugging and hypnotizing Batouty, the Egyptair 990 copilot, at the Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC, where El Al also stayed. A “manchurian candidate”. Although not in the accident report, you can google to find there were 33 high ranking Egyptian Military officers on board, including Generals – returning home from a training excercise. The FBI did a smear job on Batouty and called it a suicide.

In the article below, you will surmise that an EMP weapon was used on Kennedy – probably employing microwaves. It was probably pitched over the side of the “fishing boat” described below. The fisherman were Israelis, they got away. This was Plan B. Plan A was “MK ULTRA” (as above) on copilot/friend that kennedy invited along but he did did not committ. They discussed the route, date, and time on a tapped phone. The “treatment” gives steps – 1-2-3-4-5- and there is a trigger word or event. The drugs are amnestic so the “candidate” has no idea what he is about to do.

I was told the Kennedy Jr. records are sealed until 2029 by the FBI.

From Wayne Madsen Report “From Deep Inside The Washington Beltway”
August 12, 2009 — JFK Jr.’s PlaneCrash Was Originally Treated As Murder Investigation

WMR has learned from a source who was a close friend of the late John F. Kennedy, Jr. that the FBI originally treated the July 16, 1999, crash of his Piper Saratoga in the waters off Martha’ Vineyard as a murder investigation. Kennedy, his wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and his sister-in-law Lauren Bessette were killed when their plane plummeted into the Atlantic en route from Caldwell Airport in Essex County, New Jersey to Martha’s Vineyard. Kennedy’s wife was also three month’s pregnant with a boy.
Kennedy was to drop off Lauren Bessette at Martha’s Vineyard before flying to Hyannisport to attend his cousin Rory’s wedding.
According to the Kennedy friend, the son of the late president and publisher of “George” magazine, was about ready to announce his run for the U.S. Senate from New York. Kennedy was acutely aware of his vulnerability and hired on a personal security team just prior to his announcing for the Senate. Kennedy also decided, unlike all previous flights, not to file a flight plan at Caldwell. Instead, Kennedy, instead of filing an FAA flight plan, provided his own “flight following” by having a Kennedy friend waiting at the Martha’s Vineyard airport. When the plane was overdue the friend notified Woods Hole Coast Guard Station which, in turn, notified the FAA and other agencies.
According to the source, Kennedy, contrary to press reports, decided not to fly over open ocean from Montauk at the eastern tip of Long Island to the Vineyard but instead hugged the Connecticut and Rhode Island coast lines until flying direct to the island. Kennedy did not identify his ultimate destination on the radio – he said that6 he was flying “east of Teterboro.”
Fearing for his safety, Kennedy thought it best to be within sight of the coastline. According to the Kennedy friend, Kennedy told him his plans prior to his departure. Kennedy had also arranged for all the onboard bags, including his own and that of his family, to be hand searched by security personnel at Caldwell prior to departure. Kennedy decided not to take along a co-pilot because he felt his flight was somewhat of a risk. Kennedy’s friend said Kennedy was always concerned about the “underdog” and did not want to put a co-pilot in any potential danger. In any event, Kennedy felt confident of his and his family’s security since he had retained a security firm to provide for his protection prior to his Senate run announcement.
Media reports at the time of the disappearance suggested that the weather near Martha’s Vineyard was “hazy” and Kennedy may have become disoriented, causing the crash. However, the Kennedy friend states that this was not the case and cites the fact that visibility around the Vineyard was clear at 9:41 pm when the plane disappeared from the sky. The following is from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) report on the crash and quotes the Martha’s Vineyard tower manager:
“During an interview, the tower manager stated that no actions were taken to augment or edit the ASOS during his shift. He also stated the following:

‘The visibility, present weather, and sky condition at the approximate time of the accident was probably a little better than what was being reported. I say this because I remember aircraft on visual approaches saying they had the airport in sight between 10 and 12 miles out. I do recall being able to see those aircraft and I do remember seeing the stars out that night…To the best of my knowledge, the ASOS was working as advertised that day with no reported problems or systems log errors.'”
ASOS is the Automated Surface Observation System. Media reports claimed that visibility was around 2 miles with haze, a far cry from what the tower manager at Martha’s Vineyard stated to the NTSB.
The weather report around the time of the crash also indicated clear weather in the area:
“2053…Clear at or below 12,000 feet; visibility 8 miles; winds 250 degrees at 7 knots; temperature 23 degrees C; dewpoint 19 degrees C; altimeter 30.09 inches of Hg.
2153…Clear at or below 12,000 feet; visibility 10 miles; winds 240 degrees at 10 knots, gusts to 15 knots; temperature 24 degrees C; dewpoint 18 degrees C; altimeter 30.10 inches of Hg”
Some twelve minutes after Kennedy’s plane crashing, visibility around Martha’s Vineyard was reported at 10 miles, described as near perfect conditions by professional pilots.
There were also questions raised about Kennedy’s piloting skills. However, he had logged in 310 hours. The NTSB report also reported Kennedy’s most recent flight record:
“In the 15 months before the accident, the pilot had flown about 35 flight legs either to or from the Essex County/Teterboro, New Jersey, area and the Martha’s Vineyard/Hyannis, Massachusetts, area. The pilot flew over 17 of these legs without a CFI [Certified Flight Instructor] on board, including at least 5 at night. The pilot’s last known flight in the accident airplane without a CFI on board was on May 28, 1999.”
Kennedy’s most recent three legs were with a CFI on board and along the same route taken on July 16 but significant rain and a 800 foot ceiling. Kennedy had, according to his friend, been flying for 17 years. Before Kennedy flew the Piper Saratoga he flew a Cessna 182.
There were also media reports that Kennedy was impeded by a foot cast from an accident he suffered while parasailing. However, according to Kennedy’s friend, the cast had aready been removed when Kennedy took to the skies on July 16.
The Kennedy friend also stated that he learned from an FBI agent, as well as a Secret Service agent, who were friends of the Kennedy family that the FBI originally treated their investigation of the plane crash as a possible murder. Kennedy no longer enjoyed Secret Service protection as a protected person, according to the friend.
FBI agents, after the crash, fanned out across convenience and other stores in the Caldwell, New Jersey area and asked if anyone had recently purchased epoxy. According to the French magazine, France Dimanche, a pilot at the Caldwell airport had reported he heard a “weird noise” coming from Kennedy’s plane on takeoff. The FBI theorized that a whistle had been glued on the aft section of the plane in order to emit a distinct, unique, and high-pitched noise for the benefit of someone on the ground who wanted to correctly identify the plane when it descended for landing at Martha’s Vineyard.
The FBI asked pilots if a whistle attached to the rear of a plane such as Kennedy’s could be heard from the cockpit. The answer from all the pilots was no because the sound would only be heard by those on the ground as the plane passed overhead while descending to an audible range. There was also a belief that if the whistle had been fashioned from a water-soluble material, such as plaster-of-paris, it would have dissolved in the seawater.
The FBI discovered that there was “suspicious boating activity” in an area of Martha’s Vineyard where Kennedy’s plane was descending to 2000 feet for its final approach to the airport. The “suspicious” boaters claimed to be fishing for striped bass. However, when the FBI asked local fishermen to corroborate the suspicious boaters’ story, they stated that the particular area where they were discovered was not an area where Atlantic striped bass would be found. In fact, salt water striped bass do not start to run in Massachusetts coastal waters in great numbers until the autumn.
The FBI also found an unusual number of extra batteries in the fishermens’ boat. The FBI was suspicious of the boat’s contents because after the plane’s wreckage was discovered, investigators found, according to Kennedy’s friend, that every light bulb, including that in the emergency flashlight, had been blown out on the plane and every circuit board, including those in the engine sensors and other electronic equipment, had been literally “melted.” FBI agents on the scene preliminarily concluded that a “massive electromagnetic event” caused Kennedy’s plane to crash. FBI agents also found that the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) had its battery removed, possibly before the flight. Every simulation the FBI conducted of a plane in Kennedy’s situation, with all lights off at night and with only the engine and the vacuum pump-operated attitude indicator functioning, resulted in the same result: the plane crashing into the water.
Before the FBI could begin examining the ocean floor for any “special equipment” that may have been thrown overboard from the fishing boat, their “murder” investigation was abruptly called off by FBI headquarters in Washington.
Kennedy was preparing to re-tool “George” magazine to take on investigations of a number of major stories, not least of which was the actual story behind the assassination of his father in Dallas on November 22, 1963. According to an article in Germany’s Bild am Sonntag on August 1, 1999, Kennedy was also preparing to meet with the deputy chief of Mossad, Amiran Levine, at the Oak Room in Manhattan’s Plaza Hotel the Wednesday after Kennedy was killed. The subject was the assassination of Israel’s Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995 and that Rabin was assassinated by one of his body guards and not the convicted murderer Yigal Amir.
Kennedy’s friend said the real priority of the “George” publisher was to re-open the case of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the role that the father of the all-but-announced Republican presidential candidate for the upcoming 2000 election — George W. Bush — played in the assassination. Apparently, some documents had come into Kennedy’s possession that pointed to George H. W. Bush as a prime participant, on behalf of the CIA, in President Kennedy’s murder.
On a 1997 visit to see Cuban President Fidel Castro in Havana for an interview for “George,” the Cuban President reportedly told Kennedy a number of details about those behind his father’s assassination. The occasion of Kennedy Jr.’s visit was the 35th anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis between his father and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev. According to Kennedy’s friend, Castro confided to Kennedy that a mafia ring headed up by Meyer Lansky, who lost his Cuban gambling holdings to Castro’s revolution, and a Canadian Zionist veteran of Israel’s Haganah army, Louis Bloomfield, were the primary planners of the Dallas “hit” on his father. Jack Ruby, who killed the alleged assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, worked directly for Lansky’s organization, Kennedy was told.
Although the information on J.F.K. Jr.’s plans to more thoroughly examine the facts of his father’s assassination came from a single source — a friend of the late Kennedy Jr. — this editor is in a unique position to corroborate part of the story.
On Saturday, July 17, 1999, I was driving to a hotel in Crystal City, Virginia to proctor a certification examination for a group of computer security professionals. Listening to the radio, the bulletin came across that John F. Kennedy Jr.’s plane was missing. The news came as a body blow. In a few weeks, I was scheduled to meet with Kennedy at his magazine’s offices in Washington, DC to discuss hiring on as one of a few investigative journalists Kennedy wanted to dig deep into a number of cases, but most importantly that of his father’s assassination. Kennedy had made initial contact with me via a colleague with The Village Voice. I signaled my readiness to do whatever Kennedy wanted because, first of all, I have always been an admirer of the Kennedy family, and after twelve years under Bush presidencies, that admiration has developed into a loyalty for which I make no apologies.
My past discussions with President Kennedy’s press secretary Pierre Salinger and Texas Governor John Connally led me to believe that the young Kennedy was on to the story of a lifetime — a lifetime that for Kennedy Jr. would be tragically snuffed out early.
After I heard the news report about Kennedy’s plane and knowing of his plans, I knew deep down that he was gone and that the renewed investigation of America’s worst crime of the 20th century was dead along with him. Little did I realize at the time, but I heard the news about Kennedy as I was driving along Route 110 past the side of the Pentagon where the worst crime of the 21st century would take place under the administration of George W. Bush.

Caroline Kennedy was instead offered a consolation prize of the post of U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, a position that Schumer and Emanuel knew in advance she would never accept.

      look at my post please?

I guess you would know better than any. Did JFK ever talk of family friend of the family from his chilhood. The reason I ask is because in my youth a man proclaimed, “………walked around in a desert, a trouble maker in the sixties, and ….let go all the way to the white house.” In short I told this man that monitored our school in the middle of Amish country I would some day let the world know the truth. When I went to find out what the man from Washington D.C. was talking about my first grade teacher told me that I may be like those men but I was not going to end up like those men. I had no idea I was being compared to three humanitarians who had been assassinated, I was five years old. This man told me of how Russian families were relocated here after we had not apologized for entering WWII so late. He even brought one of them by to prove he was not bluffing that there were men who still hated. I talked this man out of cutting my throat by telling him my mother was watching and I was going to keep a promise to my first grade teacher to someday write a book, (when I figured out what she was talking about.) The encounter with this man allowed for me to read society. I have known since our president came back and stated, “they will regret the day they did this”, in response to OPEC being signed behind his back we would be in a war in the middle east. I predicted both space Shuttles disasters, a terrorist attack 6 months prior and the weekend of 09/11, even the school masacre in 2007. I think it is because I know how men like that man I met from Washington D.C. think.

I left some thoughts out in the above posting.
What of the assassination of his brother and such. Who came to America that the rest of the World would back down from? I do not believe our politicians of the time looked at it so much of a blood sport. I think Kennedy and others saw a better way, a humanitarian way to live. I think there are other influences to ensure this does not take place.
